Women Who Write

Vicki Abelson was faced with a daunting prospect: how to promote her first book. She's a suburban mom (Montrose, CA) with kids who keep her hopping, s0 when her editor suggested that she hold a series of school-hour, pot-luck, in-home salons, she knew it was a perfect idea. Vicki, a former rock promoter, got busy and got a group of writers to come read their work, and she read her work, and Women Who Write was born. It's taken on a life of its own, and grown beyond Vicki's dreams. This week, in fact, on April 1, Women Who Write is hosting a salon for Men Who Write, Too, with a star-studded lineup including RON ZIMMERMAN, TOM BERGERON,and EVAN HANDLER. All women are welcome. In Vicki's own words..."This is not a writers group. These luncheons are for ALL women. You most assuredly do not have to be a writer to attend. If you enjoy being read to, participating in lively discussion and f.easting on great food in the company of smart, provocative babes, then please join us. Feel free to extend the invitation." To RSVP, go to Vicki's facebook page. You may also email her at allthemabelsons@gmail.com

Here's what writer Rachel Resnick (author of Love Junkie, among others) says about Women Who Write:

"If you get a chance to attend, don't miss Vicki Abelson's bold new gathering, WOMEN WHO WRITE. Vicki works her suburban rock 'n' roll magic with flair, warmth and wit, transforming sleepy Montrose into a mini-Paris circa 1920s with her homespun monthly literary salons. Start with four professional writers reading recent work, add a packed room of spirited, perceptive, bodacious women, heap a table with mouth-watering eats, freeflowing coffee -- and let it rip. For a few hours, these women burst loose from their roles as mothers, reclaim the wild women within. One of the most engaged audiences for whom I've ever had the pleasure to perform. The group Q&A after was a pure sonic jolt: fun, provocative, moving and unfailingly lively. Thank you and brava, Vicki! You do Gertrude Stein proud. "
